Exploring One Of The Pahang's Gems!

Hi guys! How are you doing? Is it good? I hope all of you'll be fine. 😀 Have you guys known about the types of textiles? Such as songket, batik and so on. This kind of textiles were famous in Malaysia. So this moring, our class DUP 4 has been brought to the Institute Kemahiran Tenun Pahang Diraja (IKTPD) located at the royal town, Pekan, Pahang. As the title goes, this is one of the Pahang's worthy gems that has been conserved to make sure this arts were not been taken by modern era.

Mr. Fairuz give some briefing about the
introduction of the institute

We arrived at the institute and welcomed by Mr Fairuz and other teachers there. We were told that this Tenun Pahang originally from Riau or Sulawesi, the fabric was brought into the peninsula in the 16th century by the Makasar community which settled in Kampung Mengkasar, Pekan. The Tok Tuan or Keraing Ali was the person rensponsible for improving the technique silk wearing, which later came to be known as Tenun Pahang.

Mr Fairuz then told us that this IKTPD was run by the Queen, Tunku Azizah. Tunku Azizah's involvement in the development of Tenun Pahang began in 2005. A year later, Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who was then the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, accorded the title "royal" and renamed it as "Tenun Pahang Diraja". It's development is closely monitered by the Queen and her deep interest leads to the establishement of the IKTPD in 2010 to train young people aged from 16-35 man or woman that not married as the learner will need to learn as a full time students and offering a two-year weaving craft certificate programme.

This institute also have some memories about former Second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak. They have the Development Father's model house there. Inside, there's stored a lot of his own as the books and his photos.

Che Minah Sayang building

Can be labelled as factory, Che Minah Sayang is the place where the students want to work and stay in the IKTPD after they have finished their 2 years programme at the IKTPD. They can also find some textiles company to work if they don't want to work at the Che Minah Sayang. This is a vital action as the knowledge they had learn will not vanish as they keep practicing and implement what they learn to their job. Che Minah Sayang receives order from customers and the alumni of IKTPD itself will settled the orders within the due date.
